The first impressions of this short film are very similar to that of Morvern Callar, in the way of situational contexts. However different through the use of the narrative, which is split into three to show three different stages of this girls life--Anne Marie. The first part: Ma and da; is very repetitive and not much information is given to the symbolism or particular plot that is behind it. The childlike connection is used through out and there is a focus on men throughout as well. I think this first part was focusing on her father leaving, making her vulnerable and unsure of men and male figures in her life. The second part: holy cow; is again very strange in its sense of narrative purpose. The idea of watching boys from a far, she knows they're dangerous in a way, however she is attracted to them because of the way they are. However the death of the cow presents to her the way that men are dangerous and killers. The third part: Joke; is another adoption of the perception of men. Where she has obviously found herself someone she trusts, a man, but there is a joke played on her by the family, by a lot of men and boys, disheartening her trust in them. In my perception this is a commentary on the ways of men, and portrays a certain circle of life.
